About us

The Bristol Feminist Network (BFN) is a group of women and men in the Bristol area who are interested in discussing feminist ideas, who believe in the importance of women's liberation, and who actively campaign on issues of gender inequality and oppression.

BFN is an active network. We want to raise awareness of feminism and gender issues within the community and act on the matters that we feel must change.

The network represents hundreds of members and is inclusive of a range of views and attitudes. It does not prescribe to one particular strand of feminist thought but does believe in the importance of reclaiming the word feminism from the common misrepresentations it has been subjected to within our culture. However, anyone who is interested in what we do, or who would like to learn more about feminism, but do not define themselves as feminist are still more than welcome to take part.

We believe that challenging gender stereotypes, resisting sexist oppression and fighting for the rights of women can positively change the world  for ALL who inhabit it.

For more details about BFN's position on individual issues, please click through to read our position papers here.

Get involved!
We are a user-led organisation which means anyone can get involved and participate as much or as little as they would like. We are always keen to hear new ideas for action in Bristol and promote local activities, events and appeals throughout our network.

Please see our ACTIVISM PAGE for details of local actions.

If you would like to lead or suggest a topic for a discussion meeting or organise an event, please email us or bring your ideas to the next meeting or start a discussion online.

Meet up
Alongside its expanding online community, BFN has always aimed to provide a supportive, friendly and inspiring environment to meet up, share ideas, learn from each other and get active on what we think matters.

We hold regular discussion evenings, planning meetings for local and national actions, have an excellent book club and organise social events promoting women in music and performance art. We also facilitate workshops, exhibitions and seminars in order to educate ourselves on feminist issues and ideas.

Keep an eye on our EVENTS PAGE for our calendar of events.

BFN meets at Cafe Kino, Nine Tree Hill, Stokes Croft, Bristol. Meetings are informal and open to all, please feel welcome to drop in and meet the group.

If you cannot travel to meetings, you might want to participate in our online communities (see above).

Donate to BFN

BFN is an informal, voluntary organisation. It has no income, no premises, no resources and no staff. It runs on 100% volunteer power!

Whenever we have expenses for an event or project, individual organisers cover this out of their own pockets or seek out funding from donors. We are very grateful for the generosity of our supporters who give time, energy and money to make our activities happen.

BFN does very well with what it’s got. However, a lack of certain resources means that BFN is limited and is unable to perform as well as it would like.

Your donation means we can cover costs and organisers are freed-up to focus on activities. Thank you!
